In three months, Georgina will turn two, and we are starting to see some of the typical two year old behaviors emerging. Georgie has just started saying ‘no’ (honestly I think we are lucky it took her until 21 months!) and throwing mini tantrums, where she will throw herself onto the floor, wriggle her little body around and wail. At this stage the tantrums are only lasting about 10 seconds, and while she goes through it I just ignore her. But I’ve discoveredĀ a little trick that seems to be helping: classical music.
We usually have music on when we’re home. I loveĀ it, Tom loves it and Georgie loves it too. But recently, especially when Georgie is in a fussy mood, I have found that the music seems to make everything more tense and stressful. It’s like another layer of noise that can make the situation a little overwhelming. So, we have started listening to classical music and it’s really helped in keeping Georgie (and me) more relaxed overall, and especially in a meltdown scenario. I usually put on a Vivaldi or Mozart station on my favorite speaker / robot, though admittedly I need to brush up on my classical music knowledge to get some more variety.
Another tip for reducing tantrums that I love is this one, and I have heard wonderful things about this method too (which seems totally brilliant), although I haven’t been able to quite get the hang of it yet.
