I read a quote on this blog about a year ago and I think about it often. (It’s below in its full version.)
“Normal day, let me be aware of the treasure you are. Let me learn from you, love you, bless you before you depart. Let me not pass you by in quest of some rare and perfect tomorrow. Let me hold you while I may, for it may not always be so. One day I shall dig my nails into the earth, or bury my face in the pillow, or stretch myself taut, or raise my hands to the sky and want, more than all the world, your return.”
― Mary Jean Irion
It really and truly is such an incredibly joy to wake up every day in a cozy home with my family, where we all have our health and a fridge stocked with food, and a car to take us where we need to go.
I try not to take it for granted, and to cherish the routine of our days. I find myself going back to this quote often, especially as I work to be more present and live in the moment and let go of some of my anxieties. All things I hope to work towards in 2017.
