Growing up, Thanksgiving was my very favorite holiday. We always hosted it at our house, and my mom would cook the most delicious food. She went all out – setting an alarm for 4am to start baking bread, basting the turkey and starting on the appetizers (cheese puffs & mini crab cakes are my two faves, yum). I was in charge of my mom’s famous m&m cookies, a recipe which I have now perfected and make several times throughout the holiday season.
We would have about 30 people over, and I loved seeing cousins and aunts and uncles that we didn’t get a chance to see often throughout the year. The house smelled delicious, was full of chatter and laughter, and we would always end the day sitting by the fire, digesting food and nodding off.
This year, we are heading to Florida for Thanksgiving. I admittedly have a tough time with change, so as much as I adore spending Thanksgiving up north at my parents house, I am trying to embrace a warm weather Thanksgiving. It will be different, but it will be wonderful. Plus, it’s Georgina’s first one, so that alone makes this holiday a very special one.
Happy Thanksgiving!
