Teething has hit our household in a major way in the past week or so. For Georgie, the main sign of teething is bouts of fussiness, especially in the late afternoon. (The other sign is not wanting to eat, which is beyond unusual for our chunky little honey. The remedy: giving her a whole bagel to gnaw on, which makes her gums feel better and fills her tummy.)
Teething can be tough, and most days I try to distract her with toys, playing games, music or going for walks (also, baby Motrin). But some days, she just isn’t very happy. The magic remedy: Baby Einstein. Tom and I have been very strict so far with TV – we didn’t let Georgie watch anything at all during her first year of life, and we still don’t want her to watch much (the AAP recommends no screen time at all before two years old), so we keep the Baby Einstein viewing to a major minimum. But when she’s really fussy and uncomfortable, it’s nice to see her snuggle up on the couch with her lovey and completely calm down, soothed and mesmerized by the DVD.
