These are being written and posted slightly later than planned (oops re: #3), but the mega cold / sore throat / fever / cough virus circulated through our house for a solid week plus, and we are all only just starting to feel healthy again. YAY! So, here are the things I will be focusing on in 2016:
Be Healthier
Through being pregnant and nursing Georgina, my body really hasn’t been my own. I mean that in the best way possible. It’s an absolute miracle to be able to grow a healthy baby inside your own body (this still sort of blows my mind) and then to be able to feed your baby with that body. It’s incredible! Once Georgina hits the 12 month mark and we start her on regular milk, I am going to focus on getting myself into shape – toning up and getting into an exercise routine that I feel good about.
In addition to physical health, I want to focus on my emotional and spiritual health. I use this app to meditate every now and again, and I want to get into that even more. I’ve read great things about this five minute journal and even about coloring (as a major anti stresser), so looking to give those a try as well.
Oh, and Tom and I have started each morning so far this year with hot water and lemon (plus a little honey when we were dying of the worst colds ever) and it honestly feels SO GOOD. Apparently it has all sorts of cleansing and health benefits too. So, the plan is to keep that one up!
Be Present
As a stay at home mom, it’s easy to try and multitask when Georgina is awake and playing around the apartment. I’ll do the dishes or put clothes away or windex the bathroom mirror or respond to an email… And while Georgie is excellent at playing independently (something I definitely want to encourage), I also want to ensure I am devoting a solid amount of time to playing with her. She is at this magical age now where she is fun and extra adorable and hilarious. She loves playing games – like slowly putting her finger towards my mouth and then giggling like crazy when I pretend to bite it – and dancing, and she is just on the verge of walking. These are precious moments and I want to make sure I am as much a part of them as I can be.
As a person in general, I have always always always struggled to be present. I am constantly thinking about the future – near and far – or obsessing over things that have happened in the past. Sometimes on a great vacation or in a truly wonderful moment I find myself actually saying in my head ‘be present.’ Tom is the BEST at this – he is a master at enjoying the moment and not worrying about things and letting himself relax and just be. I need to take a page from his book!
Be More Organized
I have always been organized to the point of borderline OCD, but still haven’t fully mastered organization in my new role as a stay at home mom and blogger. I want to be better at meal planning for my family, as opposed to just adding tons and tons of yummy things into my Fresh Direct cart, then having a full fridge, then staring at it going, ‘what should we have for dinner?’ I want to keep cooking and baking healthy things for Georgina, and getting back into my pre-holiday routine of cooking a lunch and a dinner for her on a Sunday and then freezing it for the week ahead.
In terms of the blog, my plan is to map out posts ahead of time and fill this space with really inspired content on a very regular basis. When I first launched the blog last summer, I had so many posts I wanted to do that it was easy to draft a new one everyday for months. Once I exhausted the initial list of topics I had created, I found myself letting days go by without posting. So, editorial calendars here we come! Luckily this planner just arrived in the mail. Is there anything better than putting a pen to a fresh planner??!
Happy 2016, and here’s to hopefully keeping up with the above resolutions – or at least to having fun trying!
